What to Expect When Visiting Our Storage Facility
If you’re new to self-storage, it’s natural to wonder how it all works. At March Self Store, we want your first visit to be simple, stress-free, and reassuring. As a local, family-run business, we pride ourselves on being approachable and clear – so whether you’re storing household belongings, business stock, or just a few boxes, you’ll know exactly what to expect.
Arrival and Gated Entry
When you arrive for your very first visit, you likely won’t yet have automatic gate access. Instead, you’ll need to either use the buzzer button at our entrance (located on the right-hand pillar of the gate) to let us know you’ve arrived, or alternatively ring our office number at 01354 661999. A member of our team will then open the gate for you and welcome you onto the site.
Once you decide to rent a unit and complete your storage agreement (which can be done online before you visit, or in person), we’ll add your phone number to our secure SIM-controlled gate system. From then on, it’s simple:
Call to open
Call the gate directly from your registered phone, and it will open automatically within your access hours (6am–10pm daily).
Multiple users
Multiple numbers can be added for family members, business partners, or colleagues to allow convenient shared access.
International compatibility
The system even works with international numbers, so approved visitors can gain access remotely if needed.
Temporary 24/7 access
24/7 access can be arranged for short periods by booking in advance — no cost, no hassle. This ensures flexibility while maintaining top-level security.
For your first visit though, the buzzer ensures you’re greeted personally and guided through the process step-by-step by a member of our team.
Meeting Our Team
As a family-owned business, we pride ourselves on making storage personal. On your first tour during office hours (Mon–Fri 09:00–17:30, Sat 09:00–16:30), you’ll meet one of us in person. We’ll explain how everything works, talk you through suitable unit sizes, and answer any questions you may have.
Touring the Facility
We encourage potential customers to take a tour before committing. This gives you a chance to:
View indoor alarmed units
Step inside units ranging from 15–100 sq. ft to see the space and get a real sense of size.
Inspect outdoor containers
Check out our 8ft and 20ft drive-up containers for easy loading and unloading.
Choose the right size
Find a unit that fits your needs – not too big, not too small – so you only pay for the space you’ll use.
Understand the site layout
Familiarise yourself with our CCTV-monitored site and parking areas before moving day.
This helps take away uncertainty so you can feel confident in choosing the right space before you sign up.
Moving In and Using Equipment
On move-in day, your phone number will already be active on the gate system. You can drive straight in using your phone, park outside your unit (or the main building for indoor storage), and unload at ease.
To make things easier:
Indoor trolleys
Indoor customers can use trolleys provided to move boxes or furniture easily down our well-lit corridors.
Drive-up access
Outdoor units allow you to park directly at the door for effortless loading and unloading of larger items.
Business support
For larger deliveries or special requirements, let us know in advance and we can help arrange additional equipment.
Security and Peace of Mind
Our security doesn’t stop at the gate. Every indoor storage unit has individual alarms, with access controlled via coded keypads indoors. Both indoor and outdoor areas are monitored by CCTV cameras 24/7, designed to give you complete peace of mind.
On top of this, every storage rental includes £1,000 of StoreProtect cover as standard, with the option to increase your level if storing higher-value goods.
What Happens Next?
Once your contract is signed, your customer record (including phone access for the gate) is activated and you’re ready to go. From then on, your belongings are accessible on your schedule:
Standard hours
6am–10pm daily, giving you flexibility without the need for appointments or notice.
Optional 24/7 access
Temporary round-the-clock access can be arranged upon request when you need it most.
Unlimited phone numbers
Add family members, staff, or colleagues to your access list at no extra cost.
No booking required
During normal hours, simply arrive and enter — no need to notify us each time.
